Golden mooncakes: luxury or must?

Golden mooncakes: luxury or must?

Why are traditional Chinese mooncakes selling like hot cakes this season?

The Celestial Empire is celebrating the autumn coming

Mid-Autumn Festival will soon be in full swing, which means it's time to give each other traditional mooncakes. Usually they are made of sweet beans and lotus seed paste. Being the size of up to 10 cm, round or square, with hieroglyphs "longevity" or "harmony", they can contain up to 1,000 calories, but once a year even the most ardent diet devotees can afford them. Traditions are traditions!

More than just a dessert

This year, fans of exclusive offers will be able to indulge themselves.

The Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel offers to enjoy a two-tier box of gold satin with four gold-dusted mooncakes and a bottle of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut champagne. There are only 200 pieces issued, hurry up to get one!

No less elegant do their standard boxes look. They resemble traditional Chinese lanterns decorated with gold flowers and oriental ornaments. Four handmade mooncakes reside inside on four gold tiers.

What brilliant surprise was the most unforgettable in the last 5 years?

In 2012, the Chinese Bank of Communications surprised the public with a 50-gram gold mooncake worth of $3,340, while ICBC Bank offered everyone to buy a gift set of two 50-gram gold mooncakes with hieroglyphics and wishes for good luck for $6,820. There were cheaper options too: silver cakes which cost $135 per piece.
