Rare gold specimens to be sold at Bonhams May 23rd auction

The international auction house Bonhams' is going to sell very rare and highly valuable gold specimens on May 23rd.

The 'Twilight' gold nugget

This gold nugget was discovered in Australia in 1990 with a metal detector. It equals to 250 ounces, and it is one of the largest gold nuggets ever found in the world. The nugget is photographed next to a U.S. quarter dollar to illustrate the nugget’s massive size.

It costs approximately from $400,000 to $600,000.

The 'Seahorse' gold leaf

This gold leaf resembling a seahorse was discovered in the 1960's in Papua New Guinea, one of the major gold rushes centers before the World War II.

The 'Seahorse' gold leaf has belonged to a private collection since its discovery but now, this 3.1 grams piece of gold is going to be sold at an estimate price of $3,500 to $5,500.

Gold with quartz

Many pieces of gold with quartz will be displayed in the May 23rd auction, which mostly come from Brazil. Their value can vary from $600 up to $50,000.

The pieces in the picture though, are the largest specimens found in California, weighting 24.6 grams together.
