What were they celebrating?

On February 11th, 2017, Moscow’s state Historical Museum celebrated its 145th anniversary, and during the occasion, all the museum visitors received half-price tickets and a chance to try a piece of a very special cake.

A huge delicious dessert

The cake was actually made up of 145 smaller cakes covered with edible 23-karat gold. It weighed a total of 500 kilograms and included tiny golden sculptures of double-headed eagles that made the Russian coat of arms.

The cakes were made by a Latvian pastry chef according to the recipes found in a cookbook from Paris dating back to 1752. The huge dessert was served for free during February 11th and 12th.
